Saturday was another milestone. My first run in the double digits – 10 miles!
The temperature has warmed up a little bit (32 degrees) so I decided to run on my beloved trail. As I began my run at my start’n stump (see earlier post) it became obvious to me that the trail was not going to be kind to me. It was very slick from the snow’s daytime melting and nighttime freezing. Frankly, it was becoming a thin sheet of ice capable of supporting the US Olympic Figure Skating Team. I slid around on the trail for about a mile then veered onto the road (I didn’t want to perfect the triple lutz). My first road run! I stayed on the road that surrounds Pearson Metropark and even ran on the park main road that cuts through. Courtesy of RunKeeper, here is the route I took:
By the way, there are some nice houses for sale on Parkside Drive if anyone is interested.
What surprised me the most was that my last four miles were faster than the first six. Here are my split times for each mile:
On another note, I have had some ankle/foot pain in my left ankle/foot after my runs for a few weeks. I never hurt while running – just after. I thought it was just me getting used to my new shoes for my overpronation. When I told the doctor about it during my physical he said he would like to see more flexibility in my ankle (as he caressed the bottom of my foot and pushed up). Unfortunately, the pain is not getting any better, so I think I am going to make another appointment with the doc to take a closer look. After all, I don’t want to keep running if I have a stress fracture or something serious.
I’ll keep you informed on this situation.
Time to go swimming! By the way – I know I still owe you some info on the Speedo. =)
